West Bromwich Albion enjoyed a 2-1 win over Coventry City on Saturday afternoon and Taylor Gardner-Hickman was one of many players who impressed. The 19-year-old started in a makeshift midfield role but was outstanding alongside Alex Mowatt and ended up being named Man of the Match.

Gardner-Hickman has made only a handful of appearances at senior level, mostly at right-back, but was given the nod by Valerien Ismael in a different role on Saturday and didn’t let his manager down. The uncapped English youngster frequently turned over possession and drove with the ball from deep into attacking positions. Fans on social media were delighted.

Against Coventry, Gardner-Hickman played for 85 minutes, had 65 touches, completed 66.7% of his 36 passes, had one shot, whipped in one cross, had four successful dribbles, won one freekick, made two tackles, blocked two shots, made four interceptions, gave away three fouls and had three clearances.

The 19-year-old has made four appearances in all competitions this season and is will make the bench if he’s not starting. Gardner-Hickman has started in three of West Brom’s last six Championship outings but has been in every matchday squad since October ended.
