West Bromwich Albion suffered a 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup third round and Grady Diangana was singled out for his poor performance. The 23-year-old was a second-half substitute for Matty Phillips but was given a player rating of 5/10 by Birmingham Live. Fans on social media weren’t impressed either.
Diangana was outstanding in his loan season at West Brom but hasn’t been at his best since turning the move permanent the following summer. The England U21 international had a hand in 15 goals in 31 Championship games in 2019/20 but has contributed only two goals and one assist in the 18 months as a permanent signing.
This season, Diangana has featured 23 times across the board but has only found the back of the net once. He’s managed just one assist too, so it’s clear he’s gone backwards in his development. Many West Brom players struggled in the Premier League last season, but the 23-year-old has been underwhelming back in the second tier.
Fans have lost patience with Diangana and feel he should be temporarily moved on to find his form, but it remains to be seen if Valerien Ismael will let him go.
