Jordan Hugill has struggled for goals since joining West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan from Norwich City and might be replaced by Marcel Forss – a player the Baggies were linked with back in December.

The 22-year-old has been short of playing time at Brentford this season and Sky Sports says he will be granted a loan move away to get more opportunities – Forss has made 11 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals with two assists.

Hugill has scored only one goal in 20 Championship games in 2021/22, so Forss would certainly be an improvement. Fans on social media had a mixed reactions, however, as the Brentford striker is a former West Brom academy player they released in 2017. Some are open to the move while others are against it.

James Moore: “How embarrassing. I don’t care if he could help us. Signing a lad on loan that we released from our academy is just embarrassing.”

Ian Tonks: “Excited by the thought of Hugill going back.”

John Burnell: “Have seen him and he looks handy. Just do it!”

James Phillips: “Please just get rid of Hugill!!!”

The 22-year-old, who scored six goals in 16 games for West Brom’s U18s, has scored 19 goals from 73 games at Brentford. He was loaned out to AFC Wimbledon in 2019/20 and scored 11 goals in 19 matches but hasn’t commanded a starting place at the Community Stadium since returning.

Valerien Ismael hinted that Hugill could leave, so West Brom would be upgrading their attack if they bring in Forss. Fans should be pleased, even if he’s a former player.
