West Bromwich Albion are on the hunt for a striker as they only have one player with more than five league goals this season. The Baggies are 2nd in the Championship for shots (16) and 7th for goals (31), so a prolific centre-forward could put away the chances others are missing.
A Spor say West Brom have their eye on Vedat Muriqi and are closing in on a deal with Lazio for his signature. The 27-year-old has been short of form and playing time this season and wants out of the Stadio Olimpico as a result. Muriqi’s wife has admitted unhappiness in Italy too.
Muriqi joined Lazio on a five-year deal from Fenerbahce and has gone on to make 48 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals with two assists. The Kosovan international, who boasts 18 goals in 37 caps, hasn’t scored in 14 games for Lazio this season, amassing only 313 minutes of football.
Muriqi’s awful stint in the Serie A is why fans on social media are pessimistic about West Brom signing him this month.
Gareth Wood: “My friend said he was terrible for Lazio last season and has been poor for the national side for some time. Don’t build your hopes up!”
Jason David Turner: “We will be replacing Hugill with another Hugill. It’s an improvement on his day, and he can be great, but I don’t see the transfer going through.”
Stuart Wood: “(Muriqi’s) games played against goals are very poor.”
Muriqi was more prolific at his former club, scoring 17 goals in 36 games for Fener, so that’s the player West Brom will be hoping they’ve signed.
