Steve Bruce is desperate to add more goals to the squad ahead of next season’s promotion push, so John Swift (11 goals and 13 assists in 2021/22) was brought in and could be followed by Jed Wallace (6 goals and 11 assists in 2021/22) and Elliot Anderson (8 goals and 5 assists in 2021/22).
West Bromwich Albion were 17th in the Championship for goals (52) this campaign despite being third in the table for shots (14.1 per game), so the Baggies needed more prolific players.
Bruce will begin the upcoming season with Daryl Dike, Karlan Grant and Callum Robinson in attack, but Joseph Masi of the Express and Star says Aston Villa’s Cameron Archer is a loan target.
The 20-year-old scored 17 goals with seven assists from 36 games for the U23s and scored four goals from six games for the first-team. Archer spent the season on loan at Preston North End and scored seven goals with one assist in 20 games, so he’s somewhat proven himself in the Championship.
And with a 0.66 goals-to-game ratio at senior level at Villa, Archer could be a shrewd signing. By West Brom. He may not command a regular starting place, but he’s a hot prospect who can’t stop scoring. This may be the last season Archer spends out on loan given his potential.
