Reyes Cleary left West Bromwich Albion when his contract expired this summer and was tipped to join a Premier League side after showing promise at youth level. But no deal materialised and he ended up returning to the Hawthorns to continue his development in the reserves.

The 18-year-old has gone on to score three goals in two games this season and could find himself knocking on the door of the first-team soon. Cleary has already played in both EFL Cup games, but he’s yet to make the matchday squad of a Championship outing.

That could change as Steve Bruce needs goals – Matt Phillips, Callum Robinson and Adam Reach have just one assist between them in the league this season. For the U21s, Cleary scored a brace in West Brom 2-1 win over Newcastle and scored in their 3-3 draw with Sunderland, so he has three goals from two games.

Bruce has given the 18-year-old opportunities in the domestic cup, but he must be close to naming Cleary on the bench in a league game. He’s put his disappointment of not joining a Premier League team behind him and is working hard to prove himself.

In other news, Callum Robinson has uncertain future following Brandon Thomas-Asante’s arrival
